Mayor's Awards for the Arts
April 25, 2008
Mayor's Awards for the Arts, Sioux Falls' annual celebration of local
artists and arts advocates, was held Friday, April 25, 2008. Honorees in five categories
were honored during evening festivities in the Belbas Theatre of the Washington Pavilion. Nominations come from the public, and a panel of 3 jurors
in each category determined final Honorees.
Those nominated and honored in 2008 include:
Excellence in Literary Arts -- Nancy Veglahn 2008 Honoree

Excellence in Performing Arts -- Robert Carlson 2008 Honoree

Excellence in Visual Arts -- Steve Thomas 2008 Honoree

Outstanding Organizational Arts Advocacy -- Avera McKennan 2008 Honoree
First Premier/Premier Bankcard
Outstanding Individual Arts Advocacy -- Marty Davidsohn 2008 Honoree
Paul Schiller
This year's award was created by artist Edward Thompson, the 2005 Mayor's Award Honoree for Outstanding Individual Arts Advocacy. Each of the honorees
received this award during the evening's festivities. Another copy of the award will be housed in the Mayor's office in City Hall, joining a copy of each
of the awards created since 2001.
