The Community Wonders brochure can be found in your local Lewis Drug Store at the Customer Service desk! Featuring 53 works of art around the City of
Sioux Falls, and organized so that it is easy to take a driving tour of all the art in two to three leisurely hours. These are artworks that are
permanent to the City, whether privately or publicly owned.
A project of the Sioux Empire Arts Council and funded by First National Bank, Sioux Falls, the Community Wonders brochure first came to life under the
direction of Edison Middle School Humanities teacher, Sally Rice and her 8th grade students. As part of their Humanities class, the students study the
wonders of the ancient world. Then they are asked to learn about the wonders of their own community.
Spearheaded by students Nikki Rasmussen, Danielle Sustad, and Tiffany Adams, the 2003 Community Wonders research by students was compiled, edited, and a layout
designed. From here the brochure went to the printer, and 10,000 copies were distributed in the first two months.
The 2005 edition features twice the number of artworks all across the city.
